BLACK IS… is part of a new body of work entitled THE BLACK IS SERIES displayed through dance performance, documentary and photography.
Looking at themes of racial displacement & identity within black communities, FUBUNATION is confronting the conflict of never really belonging in a western society that fails to recognise African & Caribbean people’s contribution to its legacy.
How does this internal conflict of cultures compromise our sense of identity?
BLACK IS… challenges perceptions around black cultures by exploring diversity within the diaspora honouring the collective heritage black people share as a result of marginalisation in a landscape of social structures, traditions and societal expectations whilst acknowledging that our experiences are varied and nuanced.
